Embedded_International: CMMAS

Sound and Music, the Centro Mexicano para la Música y las Artes Sonoras (CMMAS) and the University of Huddersfield’s Music Department/Sound.Music.Image research centre arecollaborating in offering an opportunity for two UK composers to join two Mexican peers in participating in a residency and exchange programme during the 2015-16 season. The residency is part of the Mexico/UK Dual Year supported in Mexico by CONACULTA-CENART.
During this project the composers will have the opportunity to spend time working intensively inthe studios of CMMAS in Morelia, Mexico and in Huddersfield, developing their artistic and professional
Composers-in-Residence: Robert Bentall and Joel Cahen
Robert Bentall is a composer working primarily with multi-channel sound. His works hybridize ambient, folk, dance, improvisation and electroacoustic music.
Based in London and with a background in sound design and music for stage and screen productions as well as new media, Joel Cahen's current interests interrogate the affect of sound in various spaces (physical, cultural and the body). Since 2008, Joel has been performing worldwide with Wet Sounds, an underwater concert project that sonifies both wet and dry areas of the swimming pools; Scrap Club, the public Destructivist activity; Cacophony, multichannel installations at libraries; Soundsoup, weekly live abstract mash ups on Resonance 104.4fm London; and productions for Interzone Theatre, audio based augmented reality theatre in public spaces of the city.
